I had seen a number of doctors to diagnose my itchy skin rash and was told I had everything from scabies to erythema multiforme minor (a circular target rash). Finally, I found a dermatologist that diagnosed it as nummular eczema and added moisturizer in to the daily schedule of lotions, creams and supplements. It cleared up significantly by this addition of a sensitive skin lotion.
I know that when I started to get new red bumps in September after my eczema had cleared I was deeply disappointed. I had thought the dermatitis skin problem was finally gone, only to find some new red spots around my hip area. Eczema has a habit of relapsing so finding ways to minimize this is critical.
Moisturizing is important to do twice a daily. I had let this habit fade away once I had thought my skin was healed. You need to lock the moisture into your skin and it has to become a routine just like brushing your teeth and flossing in order to prevent eczema rashes from recurring. You can use a sensitive skin moisturizing lotion or one from the health food store with no additives. When you put on lotion right after a bath or shower, it is very good protection for eczema-prone skin.Continue to shower or bathe with warm water rather than hot water. It is tempting to go back to this, but I have paid dearly for these little treats. You can still make it pretty warm but avoid it from getting very hot when you shower. Also try to prevent situations where you will perspire or be in excessive heat. If you go to the beach, limit this for a short period of time and go into the water or take a shower afterwards. Always apply a sensitive skin spf sunscreen as well when outdoors.
It's easy to want to save money and return to one's old detergent, soap and beauty products but this can easily start the eczema rash pattern all over again. The sensitive skin products are more expensive, but it is worth avoiding the discomfort of red itchy skin and sleepless nights. Adding supplements to heal your skin are important as well as dietary changes.
